Return Of Hokule'a /Youth Congress
June 16 to 19
Na Pe'a crew members flew to Honolulu to attend the return of Hokule'a from the World Wide Voyage Festivities. Crew members provided seating assistance and drinking water at the Kupuna tent. Crew members attended the PVS Youth Congress and made a presentation about the Na Pe'a program in a break out session of the conference on Sunday afternoon. Crew members got personalized tours of voyaging canoes Namahoe, Hawai'i Loa and Hokule'a. .
Plate Lunch Fundraiser

We sold Teri Beef plate lunches to make money for our trip to Honolulu to attend the Welcome Home Ceremony for Hokule'a. We are very grateful to KTA Super Stores for sponsoring our fund raiser..
Day Sail At Kiholo
June 4
After doing our Kilo, we launched Hauliuli, Maile and "Olinolino and sailed for just over an hour. Wind was blowing upwards of 15 knots, seas were Auhulu. We were also able to do some brush clean up on the property. Started raining as were were packing up.
Na Pe'a At Kiholo

Huli Drills and Day Sail

We practiced righting an over turned canoe with mounted sail. Then went for a short sail around Keauhou Bay.
Kiholo Clean Up

Na Pe'a traveled out to Kiholo to particiapte in the TNC's Community Work Day. Na Pe'a Crew Members worked on the Loko i'a sand removal team. Using shovels and 5 gallon buckets, sand from the bottom of the fish pond was removed from the pond..
First Aid/CPR Training
April 2
National Park Rangers conducted First Aid, CPR and Defibrillator training for our 2017 Na Pe'a Crew. The training was conducted at the Kaloko-Honokohau National Park office in the Kaloko Industrial Park. . A big Mahalo to the Park Rangers for conducting the 8 hour class.
Spring Break Retreat
March 20 to 24
Started out on March 20th and concluded on March 24. Learned about the Hawaiian Moon Calendar, practiced our Na Pe'a Oli, and learned how to make weather and sea observations. We made and completed our Steering Paddles and also completed our Life Saving training...
Orientation Day
March 12
Our new Na Pe'a Journal/Workbook was unveiled. This workbook will be used through out the season to document our activities and help us learn the names of the different parts of the canoe, ocean conditions and cloud names. We rigged Mailelauli'i and Olinolino and went for a short sail. Great Wind.
